Consensus strongly favors Gymnopilus here, and I believe some of these folks have first-hand experience with Australian fungi. So my “guesstalt” of Tricholomopsis loses credibility. A brown spore print eliminates this possibility.

GALL, your linked observation certainly looks like the mushroom in this observation. Thanks.

Dave Spore Print colour

Dave normally I would, but I was hosting Debbie Viess & David Rust for a week in my bush area. ( I am pretty sure that from previous encounters the Spore Print was Brown.) Also, sure Debbie will be loading similar images to MO with better descriptions for the dates between 22nd March – 29th March. 2016 kk
