I apologize if this is a waste of anyone’s time, but I’m stuck and VERY curious.

I found this and I have NO idea not what fungi it is, but whether it’s a fungi at all! I think it’s not a fungi, but then what else could it be? I’m hoping the people here as nature lovers who’ve spent lots of time outdoors might recognize whatever this is. It almost looks like an egg laid in gelatinous mucous to keep it moist which would make me guess it’s something from an amphibian.

I really wish I had removed it or broke it open.

Looked it up in my guide and it’s there I just didn’t bother to look!
