Observation 23811: Amanita elongata Peck

When: 2009-08-01

Collection location: Lackawanna Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

Specimen available

Notes:
Caps show virtually no volval warts. Hanging ring with yellow fringe. No brown staining on basal bulb. Basal bulb on smaller specimen has root about half a cm long. Cap margin not striate or only fainlty so for 2-3 mm. Basal bulb with yellow grains of volval material buried over an inch in mulchy needle duff. Under conifers, forested plot of mainly Norway Spruce. Spores elliptical to ovoid. I almost always see lots of A. flavoconia at this time of year, but these seem somehow different…? Maybe the lighter color than typical? Lack of warts on cap?

Spores should have higher length:width ratio than in flavoconia.
