Are there any records of it occurring in North America except for old field guides which most likely did not compare DNA?

Why did you say it is “doubtful” that these are G. esculenta? Which field character, evident in my photos on this obs, is inconsistent with G. esculenta, and what species might it be instead? I would like to learn more, but a silent downvote without explanation doesn’t tell me anything useful.
