Observation 23943: Boletus chippewaensis A.H. Sm. & Thiers

When: 2009-08-03

Collection location: Norfolk Co., Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Rex (Rex Bartlett)

No specimen available

While foraging in a dense Norway Spruce plantation, we happened upon these. We have found these in similar habit before. We did find true B. edulis and realized these were different, noting the tapered stipe all the way up and reticulation throughout the stipe surface. When photos were posted, G. Lincoff suggested B. edulis var. clavipes and true enough, they key out.
