This specimen was one of only two from this foray that failed to yield any spores for me. Now that I have your suggestions, the ID you provided, Dave, does make sense to me. Found this one in the same general area of this 5.5. mile trail (in Oak-Hickory surroundings) as my ob # 237728 from about a month earlier. Don’t know why I didn’t immediately recognize it … " a senior moment", I guess=) Thanks all, for keeping me on my toes.

…would have been helpful here. Laccaria’s is white, whereas Cortinarius’ is brown.
