Observation 241091: Agrocybe praecox group

When: 2016-06-05

Collection location: West St. Louis Co., Missouri, USA [Click for map]

Who: Judi T. (AvidAmateur)

No specimen available

Notes:
A gregarious fruiting in a residential wood-chip mulch bed. Largest cap: 6.3 cm. Stipe: 8.6 cm. X 1 cm., white mycelium at base. KOH negative on cap. Obtained a brown spore print. Kuo states that “Flynn and Miller (1990) determined three biological species in the Agrocybe praecox group that occur in the Midwest (of five biological species worldwide).” Considering the habitat, it is possible that these specimens might be “Species I, decomposing woodchips in urban habitats in spring, summer and fall.” Others prefer a woodland habitat
