of the Eastern US variety will be lighter in color,some shade of grey or light brown and without the yellows or chestnut colors, the surface of the pileus will also be smoother. It will also be much tougher, G.lobatum has a thin skin and can be indented with a fingernail, G.applanatum on the other hand has a thicker skin and it is much harder.
