has only two species which can be readily separated: E. granulatus without spores and spore masses within the peridium (outer shell), and E. muricatus with spores and spore masses within the peridium.

This species looks similar to E. anthracinus, which should be in your area. I have not collected it. In my opinion, the genus is in need of revision.
