Specimen available

On crumbling Monterey shale bedrock outcrop.

Effigurate, whitish grey, tightly adnate thallus with few black pruinose apothecia. Thallus lobes with thick white pruina. Hymenium hyaline, hypothecium brown. Pycnidia common.

Spores 8/ascus, 1-septate, brown, “ornamented” barely discernable at 1000×.

The smaller round thallus on the left with the black outline (prothallus) may or may not be a younger version of Dimelaena radiata, I couldn’t tell and there were no reproductive structures.

Apothecium section
Note brown hypothecium
With a slightly different focal plane than the previous shot, I think this shows the spore ornamentation described for this species. 1000×.
