Observation 242306: Amanita submaculata Peck

Notes:
Found on a mound of soil along a dirt road. Mostly beech trees, also maple, and pine about 40 feet away.

Odor slight, but pleasant, similar to Pleurotus.

Note the membranous volval material adhered to the lower stipe and lying in the soil. Ret mentions that marginal striations are sometimes seen on post-mature submaculata http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Amanita+submaculata.

Spores broadly ellipsoid, amyloid, 7.5-9.5 × 5-7.5, 1.25<q<1.6.
