Observation 24259: Pycnoporellus fulgens (Fr.) Donk

When: 2009-08-12

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

They’re back! On the same log in Zone 04 as last year. This time I got closeups, including a pore shot.

The shriveled remnants of last year’s are still visible (though not in these photos of the new fruit-bodies). It is interesting that when I saw them last year, there weren’t any remnants from 2007 that I noticed.

notice any bruising. There was a strong, mushroomy scent up close.

Why is the name on this bouncing around like mad?

did it bruise?

Hi Paul. This might be an undescribed species of Laetiporus that we are working on. Did you notice any bruising? This undescribed species stains blackish and often tastes bitter
