Observation 24279: Russula Pers.

When: 2009-08-12

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Notes:
What’s small, low, red, and has no short gills? A Russula, of course. This one was in Zone 19 (last year: Cantharellula umbonatus, Tricholoma flavovirens, Clitocybe sp.) and resembles ones seen in Zone 15 from time to time. Zone 19 is mixed pines — white, red, and jack — with the odd hardwood and a lot of moss.
