Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

Notes:
This is the Lactarius Observation of the Week™ for the week of August 12. :) This time the milkies popped up in Zone 24, scattered over a medium-sized area with some close to “those logs” (incl. Specimen 1) and more near a path through the Zone (incl. Specimen 2).

These ones have white latex that turns sulfur-yellow in seconds; small (up to 3cm across and high); creamy to peachy tones; decurrent gills; cap depressed in maturity; gills developing brownish stains in maturity; hollow stipe. Many parts turn yellow with latex without exuding drops, notably the outer half of the stipe’s cross-section when broken.
