Observation 24289: Russula adusta (Pers.) Fr.

When: 2009-08-12

Collection location: Forest near Elgin St., Pembroke, Ontario, Canada [Click for map]

Who: Paul Derbyshire (Twizzler)

No specimen available

Found in Zone 30. That’s near Zones 09, 10, and 11, and thus the Mile, and is pine-dominated with some hardwoods (more like Zone 09 than Zone 11).

Ruddy brownish cap, white flesh and gills, thick white stipe, somewhat decurrent gills and somewhat depressed cap centre. Short gills abundant, especially for Russulales.

There were several “mushrumps” in the pine duff but most had only wreckage, bits of stipe, etc. in them; this one was right in the middle of the path and in good enough condition to maybe identify.
