Observation 245140: Cladobotryum Nees

When: 2016-07-22

Collection location: State Game Lands No. 260, Luzerne Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

What I had originally thought to be a fungus on a fungus on a fungus is actually just a fungus masquerading as another while growing on a fungus . White moldy asexual form of the typically red Hypomyces lactifluorum which has colonized an agaric (probably Lactarius).

I am not certain if the white anamorph is there by its self or both. I would suspect just the Anamorph.

I thought you may notice this.

Is the Cladobotryum parasitizing the Hypomyces or the original host mushroom (presumably a Lactarius)?
