does appear dessicated near the rim of the pileus. I see concentric rings near an inrolled edges while drying specimens frequently. They indicate the fungus has been exposed to either dessicating heat and/or winds. I do not see them in wet conditions.

dessicated ?…..it is not fishy smelling and does not stain brown the shape is also slightly different but i did find that Russula (xerempelina) near by,,,,i didn’t check it with Ferrous sulfate thought

and in my experience, could therefore be R. xerampelina, sans seafood/shrimp odor.

taste i believe was mild….KOH removed the color from the cuticle so it turned pale yellowish
