Notes:
Found in open oak woods. Colors on cap and stem seem to light for G. castaneus. Note damaged area on pores which has stained orangish.

produces a lot of G. castaneus. Given that subalbellus seems to favor coastal regions, this one is probably just a pale castaneus. I had wondered about the amber brown stain on the hole in the pore surface. I do see a lot of variation in the color schemes for castaneus.
