Observation 25045: Amanita ceciliae group

When: 2009-09-08

Collection location: Southwest Barry Co., Michigan, USA [Click for map]

Who: Jon Reck (Jon Reck)

No specimen available

Notes:
These fruit every year in the same area- on a path, near quaking aspen. For years I’d walk by them and wonder what they were- sure had that Amanita look, but no ring or volva. Last year I buckled down and studied them more closely. I took a series of photos showing what happens to the veil as the mushroom expands. The photo of the cap I took today with my new digital camera- the others are from scans of slides taken last year.
