On conglomerate rock, in a semi-arid grassland setting. Full sun, northeast aspect.
Thallus placodioid, light bown, K+R (abundant norstictic acid crystals at 100x), lobes convex, +/- imbricate, solid, pruinose and darkening at tips, slightly lifting from substrate. Apothecia lecanorine, mature in center, young on lobes, thalline margin pruinose so it looks like a white rim around a black disk, disk also lightly pruinose. Algae layer thick across base of apothecia. Hymenium hyaline, but dingy. Epihymenium brown, becoming light brown-orange in K. Paraphyses unbranched, distinctly moniliform.
