Observation 25816: Russula compacta Frost & Peck
When: 2009-09-23
Collection location: Big Thicket National Preserve, Polk Co., Texas, USA [Click for map]
No specimen available
Notes:
These seem to fit the description for R. compacta, including the brown staining of the gills. The spores were amyloid and in the size range, ~8.2 X 7.1 microns.
I didn’t really get any strong odor from them however.
