Observation 26217: Boletus mirabilis Murrill

When: 2009-10-04

Collection location: Larch Mountain, Multnomah Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Daniel B. Wheeler (Tuberale)

No specimen available

Found growing on an old Western hemlock stump, well-rotted. Thought I have found B. mirabilis, but cap not fibrilose. Instead has curious pimple-like bumps on it, especially towards the edge of the cap. SIZE: 5-6 inches across, flesh thick. GILLS: white to cream or yellowish, somewhat mis-shapen. After bruising with fingernail, quickly changing to aquablue (greenish-blue), but within 20 seconds turning nearly blue-black.
