Group of four on trail near Clear Lake under a Madrone. I took three in which the cap was fully, partially and not separated from the veil. The inrolled margins of the middle form were flattened in the older. Sizes ranged from a stipe length of 13 cm to 7, and cap diameter from 11 to 5 cm. White spore print. Cap smooth and yellowish with large umbo forming with age. Older unfringed even margin lacking striations. Older lacking remnants of veil, middle with veil still partly attached as a sheet like membrane rather than fibrous or wispy. Gills white with a slight tan cast, close and barely attached. Degraded near the stipe in the older. Youngest fully enclosed with veil. Stipe even with tapering base, breaks with a snap but incompletely, appearing fibrous. Stipe appearance variable with age, older smooth with brown to reddish color above the ring zone. No ring or significant remnants visible other than sheathing membrane beneath the colored region. Lower white with yellowish cast and streaks.. Middle with thick single sheathing ring flaring upwards. upper part of stipe white with small white patches something like sparse white scabers. Stimpe beneath ring like older. Tapering base rooted into soil. Mushrooms barely emerged from soil. Radish smell when cut open. Thick, white solid context throughout. No discoloration on youngest on cap or stipe, but drawing a fingernail along the stipe of the middle produced an immediate color change to brown. All photos taken on a cloudy day with external ambient light.
