Observation 26235: Gymnopilus P. Karst.

When: 2009-09-21

Collection location: Big Thicket, Tyler Co., Texas, USA [Click for map]

Who: Ron Pastorino (Ronpast)

No specimen available

The closest match I came across was Gymnopilus palmicola. The picture in Mushrooms of the Southeastern United States; Bessette, Roody, Bessette, Dunaway looks close and the spore color, size and ornamentation seem to fit. However, that species should have a “partial veil strongly developed, pale yellow, sometimes leaving a poorly developed ring” These may have a faint annular zone.
