Mushrooms demystified, had the brown specimens (with stems) down to Leucopaxillus previously, but exact type I don’t think was in book. Always takes long time with book and many are not there, when if know can take a few seconds. Primarily trying to rule out things clearly not edible vs. biological study. Still somewhat skeptical on the lentillus guess because not at all upturned and gills closer together than any picture saw online. Anyhow, thanks again.

where you found these: woods? wood chips? grass?

odor, taste (useful to confirm ID of your recent L. gentianius)?

try taking photos in natural light, but NOT bright sunlight. Stabilize your camera with a tripod or by placing in on something firm. camera shake = poor macro photos.

use macro settings, if available.

if all else fails and you are desperate to get online answers, invest in a better camera! good sharp photos = way mo’ bettah IDs. Save the mushrooms for a while so that you can follow up on ID suggestions.

what ID books are you using?

good luck! these are all learned skills, and we all start out at zero.

Thanks for the help

Tried many pictures and seen countless guide photographs, don’t think I can do much better with camera I have. I think someone who knows varieties of pacific coast should know this as is fairly common. What does Sensu Lato mean and why is posted?

if you can’t see it by photo
