CAP: 4 inches (10cm) wide, mauve to dark reddish-black, viscid when wet. GILLS: White, crowded, no noticeable staining. STIPE: Equal or tapering slightly towards the base, no discoloration noticed; slight pinkish-case immediately under cap.

Used references: Arora’s Mushrooms Demystified. I don’t recall finding this species before. It is supposed to stain red, or red then gray. I didn’t see any staining.
