Notes:
Location is upper Morro Creek along Highway 41 West, between Morro Bay and Atascadero.
Habitat is riparian, with a dense canopy of live oak, California bay, sycamore and willow. The specific location is a deep shaded canyon.
Substrate is siliceous non-calcareous boulder situated at or just above the high flood line of the creek. Probably does not become inundated.
Same location as observation 265151 in an attempt to find fertile material. See also observation 265755.
Thallus whitish-grey, rimose-areolate, areoles flat, thin, with a fibrous white prothallus beyone a dark zone layer. Thallus cortex UV-, C-, K+Y, KC+orangish. Medulla white, POL+, K+Y turning red. Apothecia uncommon, lecanorine, immersed, one per areole, disk blackish, concave, without or very faint pruina, margins becoming raised, concolorous with thallus. Hymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Epihymenium greenish, K+brown, with few POL+ crystals. Pycnidia punctiform, black, common. Conidia short, mostly straight.
Spores at least 5 per ascus, hyaline, broadly ellipsoid, thick-walled. Ave size 24.5×14.3µm (24.3×15.6,26.3×16.3, 22.6×14.4, 22.7×13.4, 27.3×12.9, 23.8×13.1)
