When: 2017-02-11
Collection location: Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin Co., California, USA [Click for map]
Who: Debbie Viess (amanitarita)
Notes:
Collected for the BAMS/Pt. Reyes Fungus Fair. Most of these folks helping collect were brand new to collecting mushrooms, but they found amazing things!
This was a new species to me. Doesn’t key out in either Beug’s asco book nor Matchmaker.

the figures come up pixelated for me for some reason, but the key and descriptions are extensive.

but my latest literature claimed the asci only had 8 spores. the Swiss book goes deeper, claiming that the asci start at 8 but at maturity it’s 16. So, that is certainly a possibility.

on doug fir.
I did get nice spore drop, too. will scope soon.
off to meet up w/Elinoar Shavitz in SF. East meets West!
BTW, I see that you will be at NEMF, Danny, along with my asco buddy Roz.
See you there!
Here’s to a wet and wonderful NE summer.
all readable but photos no good. plenty of other photos of alutacea around, tho.
I will check those spores and do a section of the skin/perithecia soon.
