There is a group of Melaspilea spp. known to live parasitic on Graphis, Pheographis, Pertusaria, Pyrenula and other genera as well. Particularly, M. lentiginosa is commonly referred to parasitise Pheographis dendritica. These can be the protagonists of this observation, though the thalli of each species seem to be separated, but alternating in the small trunk of the host (Castanea sativa).


Microscopy: Apothecial sections (x100&x400, in water and in cresyl blue);
