Maybe Amanita species. Small in stature but firm and in reasonable condition apart from the damaged cap. Area Eucalyptus rain forest. Only single specimen found.

This collection is a rather good match to the original description of Wood’s species.

I didn’t see it at first; however, Igor’s suggestion on today’s post by Ian of what seems a watersoaked collection of this same critter got me reading Wood’s paper again.
