…very similar to an east Asian species of section Amanita rufoferruginea. One potential difference between Vihane’s photos and those of rufoferruginea from Dr. Yang’s lab in Unnan is the size of the stipe’ basal bulb relative to the remainder of the fruiting body. Perhaps, however, the size of the bulb changes (shrinks) as the stipe lengthens.

We could use more data on this observation.
