But you have to admit it does look a lot like Laricifomes officinalis. That is all.

otherwise it is useless for ID & documentation of the distribution. The combining authors of the Laricifomes officinalis, Kotlaba & Pouzar, were my more senior colleagues in the Botanical Institue in Pruhonice, Czech Republic. When I send them this photo, they liked it, but without having a small piece of the conk tissue they would not dare to guess.
Mushroom Observer would get more professional if it would abolish MO Holy Trinity, i.e., Deprecation, Voting and Consensus and use a special comments (i.e., Annotations) for suggesting a “better name” for MO postings. Let’s lleave it to the original user who posted that observation to accept or reject the suggestion.

but I cannot prove that it really is. The best test for Laricifomes officinalis is that trama will turn red with KOH. Needless to say, it does not work with photos.
