Much taxonomic confusion

First, yes, franciscana is crustose not fruticose! It should be Roccellina franciscana, not Dendrographa franciscana.

As for the other… well, this article, I think, does the best job explaining it:

It’s a mess.

I only see franciscana and leucophaea listed from the east side of the island

But why is it that franciscana seems to be a completely different crustose looking lichen? http://lichenportal.org/...

to distinguish the two common species (D. alectoroides and D. leucophaea) without microscope… but maybe that’s just the way the key is written.
