do all of the Gautiera smell like that? It sure looks mature, and is obviously producing spores.

I have no idea. But the spores are a good match for that Genus.

tried to ripen, but odor remained mild—

in any case, I did not detect the typical Gautieria aroma.

interesting lacunose gleba, too. spores similar to G. monticola, but macro is not.

apparently there are at least 15 sp. of Gautiera in the PNW!
