Who: Dave W (Dave W)

No specimen available

Collected in same exact spot as obs 277762, grove of pines (Scotch and/or Virginia) with a few sapling Norway spruce mixed in near the edge of the grove. No hemlock in this spot.

Other similar fruit bodies collected in this spot lacked evidence of a partial veil. The mature one seen in this observation also showed no evidence of a partial veil. But, the button specimen did exhibit partial veil as a thin somewhat fibrous covering partially adhering to the gills. This is seen in the photos of the sectioned mushroom. Also, photos of the un-sectioned button show a thin band of (presumably) partial veil material connecting the cap margin to the stipe.

Spores obtained from a spore drop (mature specimen) ranged from globose to broadly ellipsoid, with a larger percentage of spores tending toward broadly ellipsoid than had been seen in 277762. Spore dimensions roughly 8-10 × 7-9. with 1<Q<1.25. This exceeds the reported range of Q for praecox.
