I made an attempt to get the entire “root” but still missed the last bit.

But I get a new species I hadn’t noticed before

and that is exciting. This park is amazingly complex with fleshy fungi.

Thank you for taking the time to study these observations. I’ve only seen one of these, I think, so it’ll probably be a while before I get to examine that sterile margin. I’m used to seeing it in “boletes”.

Another character to add to the long radical is a sterile margin of the cap.

The sterile margin extends beyond the ends of the gills and is free standing (not attached to end of the gills).

Very best,

Yes, I meant magniradix.

Not enough time in the day to go through the MO messages. I end up doing them at night when the brain is not …. um …. fresh.

Very best.

No kidding?

Yet another species, what is jumping out at your well trained eye here? Not listed in the GSM Checklist. I’ll add a page from OH wait, is it A. magniradix?
OK I gotcha – it’s the long “radicating” bulb that was ridiculously hard to excavate!

This could be Amanita magniradix.
