Specimen available

On decorticated wood of a large downed log in an open disturbed area within chaparral and oak woodland habitat.

Thalus green, continuous, K-, C-. Apothecia abundant, black, epruinose, 1mm or less. Hymenium hyaline, not inspersed, epihymenium brown, hypothecium dark brown, paraphyses with dark apical caps.

Spores 8/ascus, brown, 1-septate, ellipsoid (bean shaped), smooth, not constricted. Average size: 12.5×6.1µm (n=5).

Photo Note: There is a crappy cell phone pic that shows the thallus greenish, this is actually more accurate color than the 2nd pic taken with a really nice Leica dissecting scope that has a white LED light that just kills color and I haven’t figured out how to calibrate it well yet.

Leica dissecting scope photo at 16x
100x in water
100x in KOH
100x in KOH
Spores at 400x in KOH
