Collection location: Carbon Co., Pennsylvania, USA [Click for map]

Who: Chris Foss (The Vault Dweller)

No specimen available

Notes:
I have a very large (and probably very old) birch tree in my yard which this was under. When I took the “large environment” photo I made sure to include not just the mushroom and it’s surroundings widely, but the tree as well.

This is also listed as a good edible, but of the two that appeared one (from a week ago) I accidentally ran over with my mower (right as I noticed it) and this one I took apart to help identify. I’ll watch for them around this time next year.

non-staining context, and placement in Leccinum all support your proposal, Chris.
