We have genetic confirmation that this material can be assigned to rooseveltensis.

As usual we were unable to obtain very much for the nrITS gene, but we got good coverage of nrLSU with some of nrITS that is immediately adjacent to nrLSU.

Very papery and delicate, also dirty, doesn’t show well in the photos. See left specimen in side view, left side of stem, dirt is held away from the stem by the sac.
For awhile it seemed there was evidence to suggest the xxxx-ensis group (within the Vaginatae) is represented by morphologically similar taxa with distributions that correlate regionally; A. rooseveltensis being primarily a northeastern NA species. However, looking through the MO rooseveltensis observations I now also see a confirmed collection from GA, and a few other GA observations that look like rooseveltensis.
This one certainly looks like the rooseveltensis that grows in my yard each year. The partially buried volva with soil clinging to it is something I often see. The ones I see up here in PA tend to first appear between the latter part of June and mid July.
Nice call on the ID, Russell! It’s good to know the morphology of rooseveltensis (as currently understood) led you to this correct proposal.
