Habitat: From soil in area of mature hemlock, white pine, red maple.

Cap: 6.5 cm, flat, golden yellow, becoming darker yellow orange toward the center. With scattered scales that can be easily moved around. Edge only very slightly striate. Flesh white. Gills: White, yellowish near cap margin, just attached, very close. Stipe: 7 cm long, gradually tapering from 2 cm thick at the base to 1.3 cm at apex. Pale yellow, smooth, with persistent pendulant annulus. Flesh white, stuffed. Powdery yellow pieces of the volva evident around the base.
