Observation 280227: Mixed collection

Notes:
I believe the one fruit body is Amanita flavoconia and the other A. flavorubens. Growing about 8 feet apart in hemlock dominated woods, oak and birch also present.

The one showing the staining was not in very good condition. There seemed to be quite a few ambiguous examples in this stretch of woods on this day.

I did preserve obs 280217, found in the same spot as the two in this obs. But I’m guessing this is not a high priority item at this time.

I have seen red-staining in flavoconia-like taxa before.

Several times.

I’ve also seen small species in the North American rubescens group.

I don’t know if I’ll have time to get this sequenced any time soon; however, it might be worthwhile to explore this further.
