I haven’t heard mentioned before!

We have good support from ITS and LSU.

However, some of our past ITS sequences for justicei have been from the middle part of the nrITS locus. We get enough data to submit to GenBank. But not a lot more.

This is the situation: The nrITS locus has three subloci: ITS1, 5.8S, ITS2. In Amanita, the middle sublocus (5.8S) is 160-161 characters long. It is flanked by two subloci that are each usually around 200 characters long. Sometimes significantly more.

In A. justicei, we sometimes get just stubs of these flanking subloci. This time we have less than 30 character of ITS1 and less than 50 of ITS2. If this is a frequent situation for a given species, there is a lot of variation in these pieces of ITS1 and ITS2 and they “sort of” serve in a barcode role.

Very best,

strongly support an ID of Amanita justicei nom. prov.

More later.
