Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima) trunk bark at old homestead dating to 40’s or 50’s, in a semi-arid grassland setting.

Thallus greenish-yellow, very thin and verrucolose to thick and strongly granular, continuous,orbicular but lacking a prothallus, K+Y (not at )20x, C- (UV confirmed K+). Soredia absent. Apothecia common, plane to somewhat convex, to 0.5mm, disk pale yellow, lightly pruinose at the edges, thick thalline margin persistent but becoming reduced, always granular and greenish from algal cells showing through due to lack of amphithecial cortex. Hymenium and hypothecium hyaline, epihymenium yellow-brown with small faint POL+ crystals, soluble in K. Paraphyses simple.

Spores hyaline, simple, narrowly ellipsoid. Average 13.2×5.7 (n=6).
