Observation 285344: Monotropa uniflora L.

My daughter took this photo while vacationing in northern Michigan. She sent it to me for identification and was surprised to learn of this species connection to fungi when I sent her the following link:

She described the habitat: rich soil in mixed woods, predominately Balsam Fir with a few Aspen, Birch, Oak, and Elm.
