Great swaths of muscaria (as I’ll persist in calling it until struck forcibly) have popped up in the Oakland hills over the past couple of days, easily spotted from the driver’s seat of a passing vehicle.

Used references: Sources vary regarding the nomenclature for this mushroom, some by pointing to “var. muscaria” as a European subspecies, but nearly all that I consulted (other than this website) label it either var. muscaria or var. flavivolvata. I see now that flavivolvata has been deprecated here in favor of amerimuscaria, which is aces with me.
