It’s almost like saying “Elementary, Watson”. :-) I guess one needs to think outside of the box when considering how Strobilomyces would look like in that part of the world. :-) Thinking “exotic”, not your typical fuscous Old Man of the Woods, surely helps. Good instincts, Django, well done!

I just googled “Strobilomyces Asia yellow”

…and found 2 papers mentioning that Strobilomyces mirandus is the only known bright yellow Strobilomyces in Asia.

If my ID is correct then this would be the first record of this species from Laos. Did you preserve any specimens?
