Observation 288764: Buchwaldoboletus Pilát

When: 2016-12-29

Collection location: Jacks Peak County Park, Monterey Co., California, USA [Click for map]

Who: Pgrunow

No specimen available

A few bright yellow, lumpy boletes growing low to the ground beside, but not on, Monterey Pine logs. Both pileus and pores were yellow, with the pores staining a navy blue. Creamy look to pileus. Very lumpy, awkward and unflattering appearance, with stipe way off-center. Look and habitat were like sphaerocephalus, but would be late for that. Stipe thick bulbous and short. Keyed to buchwaldoboletus and distinctive in appearance. Pores more brownish orange on an old one.
