Found along the Appalachian Trail in the Roan Mountain, Tn. area between Mountaineer Falls Shelter and Moreland Gap Shelter.

is the NA replacement for what had formerly been called A. citrina (group). Mushrooms in this species cluster tend to feature a basal bulb that is rather abrupt, thick, and spongy. This combination of traits amounts to a marshmallow-like basal structure.

Not sure what you mean by “marshmallow” but These pics are all I have of this observation. My original id in the field was A. citrina, but I’m not very familiar with it. Michel Beeckman suggested A, lavendula group, and I can’t see a reason it doesn’t fit. Do you have any other suggestions to look in to. ?
