Observation 290911: Mycena thymicola Velen.

When: 2016-10-20

Collection location: Tualatin, Washington Co., Oregon, USA [Click for map]

Who: Sava Krstic (sava)

Specimen available

In Joe Cohen’s yard, growing in masses.

It seems to be a common suburban mushroom in the area. See Observation 223365.

[26 Jan 2018] These have slightly marginate gills; I didn’t notice it at first. Observation 223365 must be different. But Observation 295717 (found in the same place a year later, turned out to be M. thymicola) could still be the same species as this. I wouldn’t eliminate M. capillaripes, which has similar microscopy and looks similar enough (even though there are no reddish tints here). This needs more work.

Species Lists

Cheilocystidia, 50-80 × 11-14.

Stipitipellis. Terminal cells. Hyphae mostly smooth, some with rare excrescences.
