Observation 292938: Amanita stirps Sororcula

In mixed woods, primarily eastern white pine, beech, ash. Measuring ~10 cm in height, with cap approx ~ 6cm in width. Pileus olivaceous brown, with some dark grey patches at center, not easily removable. Margins striate. Gills free, off-white, with numerous short gills of varying lengths. Stipe widening towards base, stuffed with cottony fibrils. Dark grey volval remnants in cottony bands near base, with white material covering extreme rounded end of stipe.

Updated: Half of material mailed to RET at his request on 10/3/17. Other half retained in personal herbarium as part of PVMA Mycoflora project.
